For Care

Centacare Brisbane has announced it will no longer provide NDIS-funded services, including Supported Independent Living (SIL), in-home and community support, and day programs. The change, due to take effect by mid-November 2025, will affect around 700 participants and 600 staff across South-East Queensland. Understandably, this news has left many people wondering what comes next.

A community approach

The Centacare announcement underscores the importance of the whole disability sector standing strong together, providing the best outcomes for everyone to feel secure, supported and respected.

Transitioning To A New Provider

Our advice is to talk openly with your support coordinator, ask about all the options available, and make sure a prospective disability provider takes the time to understand your unique needs, routines and preferences.

If you’re considering a new option for yourself, your child, or someone you support, the For Care team is here to answer your questions, listen to what matters most to you, and help you take the next step with confidence.

For participants and their families, the main concern is often continuity of care. Losing an NDIS provider you’ve come to rely on can be stressful, and moving into a new SIL home or adjusting to a new support team can feel daunting. That’s why we make the transition to For Care and as smooth and supportive as possible. In many cases, it may even be possible to stay connected with your current support team if they move with you. The goal should always be to keep stability and support at the centre of your plan.

We’ve been privileged to providing disability services in southeast Queensland for almost two decades, including supported independent living, in-home care and community access. Our sister companies offer complementary services, such as plan management, support coordination and day programs for young adults, which means we are well placed to assist with participants who are transitioning from Centacare.

We have more than 50 long-term residents in our SIL homes who are happy, supported and thriving, and we currently have vacancies available for those who need a new place to call home.

A Community Approach – Continued Employment Opportunities

The announcement also brings uncertainty for staff. Many dedicated support workers, team leaders and coordinators are now wondering about their future.

For Care has career opportunities for support workers who want to continue making a difference in a supportive, values-driven environment.

If you’ve loved your work with Centacare, you’re a person who makes a difference in the lives of participants, and you’re exactly the kind of person we want to keep in this sector. We know how important it is for participants to maintain familiar faces. Where possible, we’ll work to support both participants and their workers to transition together. Keeping those relationships intact is one of the best ways to ensure continuity and reassurance for everyone involved.
